Almost Like Running

Posted by whitey on 2/28/2008 on whitey's blog

Running is nice because you can get a great workout in a short amount of time. For those of you with a full-time job and/or kids you know how time is always an issue. Lately it has been a big issue for me and although I have been riding, it’s been stressful trying to fit everything in. For example, yesterday I needed to pick my boys up at 5:00 and couldn’t get out on my bike until 4:00. Both boys go to school about 8 miles away and neither of them had a bike at school. Really wanting to ride, I decided to attach the trail-a-bike to my seat post and the burly trailer to the trail-a-bike. After some deep thought about weather or not I wanted to be seen riding around Boulder on this long contraption, off I went. At first it felt pretty easy and I was at my first son’s school in no time. It was on the way to the other school that I started to realize how hard the ride home was going to be. Once I had both boys, it felt like I was doing high rep squats in the gym. About half way home my seat post clamp broke off and my seat dropped about three inches and was wobbling back and forth. I never thought I would say this, but thankfully I drove into a parking ramp with my bike on the roof of my car a few months ago. Hitting the cement bent my seat post and stopped it from dropping down all the way so I could still sit on it. By the time we made it home it was just about dark and Jake and I were exhausted. It was a great way to fit in a hard workout and the boys loved it.
