Am I an Enthusiast?

Posted by 2Speed on 5/9/2007 on 2Speed's blog

Hmmm. My first post on this blog. I have another blog, www.2-speed.com, but I don't write much about cycling. I'll give this a shot . . .

It seems like yourcycling.com is targeted towards "enthusiasts." Am I an enthusiast? I don't know how that's defined. I don't race, but I ride about 5,000 miles per year. I ride in many charity events, and make pretty good time. For a 47 year old, anyway. It seems that most of the discussions here are about racing or training for racing. I certainly don't qualify to participate in such discussions, but I'll be an interested reader.

Hi, 2speed. Welcome to the site! ... YourCycling.com is pretty new and hasn't hit its stride just yet. True, the early posts here have focused on racing. But our intent in creating this site was that it would be an online home for cyclists like you, and not only racers.

In fact, I'm around your age. I don't race, but split my cycling time between road and mountain biking. I usually do a few long organized road rides each year, and am hoping I'll be ready for a century in June. (That's coming up fast! Worst case I may have to drop back to the metric century option and think about a century for the fall. 8^)

Are you an enthusiast? 5,000 miles a year? Oh, yeah, I'd definitely call you that!
