Beyond the Racer Zone

Posted by whitey on 3/4/2008 on whitey's blog

One of the greatest things about cycling is the cyclist themselves. We come in all different shapes and sizes with different backgrounds and ability levels. Take this weekend for example. I spent thirty-minuets sharing stories and discussing gear ratios with complete strangers in front of the coffee shop. One was of the jean wearing commuter type while another was a hard core fan/tour junkie. Of course I was the lycra wearing racer type. We ranged in age from 28-60 and weight from 170 -240 but none of that mattered. We all experienced the same joy and satisfaction while on the bike. And even though we experience these joys at different speeds we were all able to relate and have a good time. When the older, overweight gentleman’s wife finally got tired of listening to him tell us about he glory days, it was time for us to ride our separate ways. I don’t know if I will ever see these guys again but it was a pleasure meeting them and I can’t help but wonder, who I'll meet on the next ride.
