My son Jake just had his 7th birthday and we got him a sweet new dirt jumper. I think we all remember getting our first real bike. Mine was a Schwinn Predator and man, I was one bad mo fo on that thing. I can vividly remember my mom and dad taking me to the bike shop to pick one out and then telling me they couldn’t afford it. So when I got the same bike on my birthday it was one of the greatest days of my life. Naturally, I pulled the same trick on Jake and Wow was he excited. The look on his face was priceless. Half the neighborhood already knows he’s got a new bike because he was riding around telling everyone he saw. Even yelling to people across the street he didn’t know. My ex-wife also got him a new set of rollerblades and he just couldn’t decide what he wanted to do. Hmmm, ride your sweet new bike (with pegs) or rollerblade? Life must be hard for a seven year old. Like me, he wants to do it all, so he did them both at the same time. After he crashed, going off the jump, on his bike, while wearing rollerblades, he decided to take off the rollerblades and do one at a time. Either way, I’ve got one happy kid right now and I hope this feeling sticks with him like it did for many of us. Who knows, maybe he’ll do the same for his kids someday. What was the most memorable bike you’ve had?
