After much early season preparation, the day finally came and Cross Vegas was here. I had a nice day lounging in the shade by the pool with my girlfriend while waiting for the team van to arrive. When it did, we cruised over to the race and set up for the big show. The race crew had been out all day preparing the course and it was great. There were TV cameras on booms, lots of lights, tons of CRAZY fans and Elvis holding the lap cards. I was surrounded by all the big names at the start and we could barely hear the gun go off over the screaming fans. It took the use of some old hockey skills, but I made the lead group after the first lap. Then Trebon and Page started attacking and shattered the group to about 10. Now I was in the second group and feeling strong but the thick grass was killing me. It felt like I was riding up hill all the time. Eventually this group started to fall apart as well and we ended up in groups of 2-3. I think I held on for a top 25 finish but results aren’t posted yet. Joachim Parbo, the Danish National Champion, and Carl Decker were closing in fast but I dug deep to keep him and from catching me. The best part was the Whitey DeBroux fan club. Those guys are crazy!! If there was an award for the best fans they would win for sure. Maybe they could use the money to pay their indecent exposure fines.

Wish I could have been a part of that fan club out there. Great race out there early season with the big dogs. It must be something to do with the place you're staying. The small picture above Joby looks like a blow up doll that everyone is carrying around. How did the crit go for the boys. I heard there was crap loads of money.
