Posted by coolblueskies on 7/25/2007 on coolblueskies's blog Doping is an unfair advantage whether it’s Jan Ullrick or Barry Bonds, the Tour de France or The Baseball Hall of Fame. From my point of view, the evil is not in the banned performance-enhancing substances or techniques but rather the sly, underhanded shroud of advantage the doping athlete has over those that pursue sports cleanly. The line between cheating and gaining a competitive advantage in pursuit of that all-important goal, victory, is at best blurry. So I have a suggestion for cycling, run a Le Mans styled multi-class event that separates “dopers” from “cleans”. Give all those that wish to use performance fuels, steroids and other dopes a classification where they can compete among themselves and apart from those that wish to pursue the sport more purely. Further, I think this is the perfect format, and Colorado the perfect venue, for a late season world-class Tour of The Rockies. An innovative, unconventional solution is an American way to solve a problem and could be the way to finally bring world attention to an American tour. Let’s see how big and fast competitive cyclists can get when its played fair and honest. Bring on Cycling’s Top Fuel Eliminator ! | |
