Posted by brad on 7/18/2007 on brad's blogMonday I set out at 5:30 am from Mike Carter’s house in Littleton for Vail. It was just Mike and I as we watched the sun come up on our 140 mile journey that would climb 15,000 ft. It was a perfect day with no clouds and a cool feel to the air. Then again it was 5:30 in the morning and you’re in Colorado. We went up Deer Creek Canyon and made our way up High Dr. and then down into Evergreen. We were in Evergreen just over an hour! A bit a fast start but what was I to expect when you’re climbing with Carter. We then went over Squaw Pass and had a chilly decent down to Idaho Springs. The trip to Georgetown was not too bad as the wind was light. We stopped in Georgetown for some fuel and then headed up toward Loveland pass. Some clouds looked like they were rolling in with some rain in the distance but we made it up Loveland pass and over Swan Mt. dry. We got a few sprinkles in Frisco and up toward Copper but by then we were almost there. Once over Vail pass we got wet part way down and then dried back out. We had finally rolled into Vail 7 hours and 45 minutes later. I needed some food and some caffeine to pick myself back up. I got a slice of Pizza and a coffee to hold me over until I got home. I think I could have eaten a whole pizza and some. It was a great ride and should help when I head back to Europe in a week. I fly back to Europe on Tuesday July, 24 for a month. Should be good prep for US pro nationals in Greenville, SC. Before all that I’ll tackle Mt. Evans since I’m around. Should be fast with Tom Danielson showing up.
