Posted by whitey on 6/26/2007 on whitey's blogAfter the Nature Valley Grand Prix I headed over to my hometown for a few days. I scheduled a seminar on how to treat road rash for Monday night after the GRABAAWR ride. The GRABAAWR is a 500-mile casual ride that follows the Wisconsin River from start to finish. I did it with my Dad back when I was 12 so it was cool to see it now. At night, after the day's ride, participants usually stay at schools so they can use the cafeterias and showers. Some people sleep on the floor in the gymnasium while the majority sleep in tents. I have a lot of good memories from that ride and hope to do it again someday. This year was different because I was there to talk and not ride. I presented the Whitey’s Crash and Burn Kit to a small group riders and showed them the proper way to treat road rash. Everyone was very interested and happy to finally learn the right way to do it. Two of the guys rode recumbents and had some interesting stories of how they crash and slide on their hips. It’s nice to take a break from the racer scene once and awhile so I was intrigued by their stories.
