Sicily is a big island in the Mediterranean sea. It's one of the main sights of a bike tour of Italy (external link to a nonprofit blog with good articles and info about Bicycling in Italy)

- The tour begins in Nicolosi (external link to wikipedia). the base point to visit the Volcano. The itinerary continues with the visit of the little towns at the feet of the mountain: Ragalna, S. Maria di Licodia, Biancavilla and Adrano in the west side.
- After the trip goes to the east side of the volcano visiting the cities of Bronte (Italian capital of Pistacchio productions) and Castiglione di Sicilia (The cradle of Sicilian red wine).
- Then you'll reach the Greek town of Giardini Naxos (just under Taormina) along the flow of the Alcanatara river. The tour ends in Nicolosi with an excursion on the summit craters of the Etna.
How to get there and move around
- The easiest way to arrive is by airplane. There are two main airport: Palermo (Falcone Borsellino ) and Catania (Fontanarossa ).
- The trainline connect Milan, Rome and Naples to Messina, Catania, Syracuse and Palermo.
- Ferries connect Sicily to mainland Italy, Sardinia, Malta, Tunisia, and Egypt. Transportation takes from 25 to 45 minutes to cross the Strait.
- By bus or car you have to take the freeway Salerno-Reggio Calabria A3 and then take the ferry boat trow the Strait of Messina.
