I'd Move To Minneapolis

Minneapolis
Homemade bike trailer out of a wheel chair. Very Nice!

I have been here a few times before but have never seen it from the seat of my bike. They have a great bike path system and there are tons of people out exercising. I rode over to the pedestrian mall where we'll be racing on Friday night and saw some pretty cool stuff. Supposedly thousands of people come out and line the streets to watch us race.

Check out the picture of this guy who built a bike trailer out of a wheelchair. Not bad, although I don't think I would put my kids in it. The trend here seems to be more on the commuting/bike messenger side rather than the racer type we are used to. One guy we ran into had just dislocated his shoulder trying to cross some railroad tracks. Not sure how it happened, but my money goes on the fact that he was looking at the group of girls standing there. He had an imprint of the track on one side of his head and wasn't wearing a helmet so I was a little concerned and gave him a quick assessment. From what I could tell, the only major injury was his left shoulder. It was completely out of socket and looked really painful. As you can see in the picture, his bike was unridable so he had to call a friend to come bring him to the ER.

The weather here is great right now, but damn these mosquitoes! All I want to do is sit outside and type this and they keep biting me. Guess I won't pack my bags yet.

Minneapolis has a fantastic biking scene composed of racers, commuters, messenger-style, casual and triathletes. It's a strange thing given that we're so close to the arctic circle. There is a strong track community as well We also have a strong winter riding scene with commuters, derbies, and a pretty famous ally cat race called Stupor Bowl in January. There's definitely lots of good riding here and you wouldn't find yourself alone on the roads ever.

That being said, I'm moving to Boulder myself :) I like the weather there better.

Minnesota is a beautiful state to live in! Along with the friendly people, there are many great fishing and frog/turtle hunting lakes!

My Mother-in-Law used to live in St. Paul. I know what you mean by the mosquitos. We camped outside, in a family tent. But whenever somebody would get up to go to the bathroom, afterwards, you'd start hearing the buzzing.
