It's Harder Inside

Posted by whitey on 4/25/2007 on whitey's blog

The rain has been coming down like crazy here on the Front Range. There is flooding all over the place and I sure as hell wasn’t riding outside. You know, one of those days your glad not to be a bike messenger. So like usually, when the weather is bad I head down to MOB Training Center and chase the Euro pro’s on the big screen. Although I was doing some really intense intervals, I still couldn’t get any closer to them. It’s like I was mounted in the same place or something. Oh wait, I was. The workouts always feel harder inside than they do outside and my butt gets sore way faster. I think it’s the lack of movement and momentum. There are no bumps or terrain to make you move on your saddle and you can’t coast to give yourself a little break here and there. So here’s my opinion on the type of riding that gives you the most benefit in the least amount of time: 1) Stationary trainer 2) Racing 3) Riding solo outside 4) Riding in a group 5) watching the Tour on TV (unless it's a recovery day, then it is making you faster). What do you think?
