I've Still Got It

As I look back on the weekend in Moab, I realized that I did pretty damn good for a guy who hasn’t ridden off road in months. Even on my 10-year-old hard-tail that everyone wanted me to leave home, I was able to ride all the terrain. I didn’t even have a single mechanical problem. If you remember, mechanicals were a big part of the reason I switched to the road three years ago. I always had a new full-suspension bike but the damn things would always break down on me in the middle of a race. Maybe it’s just the way I ride and I know full-suspension bikes are sweet but there’s something to be said about keeping it simple. The luxuries are nice but it’s also nice to go on a ride and not have to worry about anything breaking. On the other side, the constant jarring from the hard-tail has left me feeling like I’ve been hit by a Mack truck. If I had been riding a full-suspension I guarantee I would be feeling a lot better right now. So what’s the best way to go? I’d probably buy a low travel full suspension cross country bike just to take the edge off. For now, I’ll stick to the road as my main focus and just ride out my front door everyday and not have to worry about anything.
