Posted by brad on 6/27/2007 on brad's blogThe final race before heading home went well for the team and myself. After trying to establish a few breaks we finally got one that stuck with 8 guys. We still had 110K to the finish but had a strong group. With about 25 miles to go we had a good gap and my teammate Robin thought he would attack. After his attack got brought back Pol on the team went as well. The rest of the people in the break were quite annoyed with the early attacks. I was riding an old Trek of the teams that was very uncomfortable and I had the seat way to low. With about 6 miles to go a big Belgium attacked and Robin and another guy were there to go. Pol and I sat on the other riders for a while. They weren’t to happy and we did some light work as it was a bit windy. Since I didn’t fee like I was going to have a good final sprint I told Pol I would attack with 2K to go and make them chase me as he sat on them and then once they caught me he should jump. When I attacked with 2K to go I didn’t know the other guys were that strong. As I looked back after hammering for a while they were already on me. So I kept it going over the cobbles and finished 7th. I was happy to finally get a decent result.
