This is why I ride my bike and live within riding distance of most things I do. Can you guess what city this is? Secondly, can you guess why I don't live there? I pay a premium to live where I do but every time I venture out of the bubble all I can think about is how happy I am to live in Boulder. Can you imagine if all these people lived close to work or used public transportation. Even something as simple as carpooling would make a huge difference. I don't want to sound like a hypocrite because I was in my car by myself, commuting between Boulder and Denver. The difference is, I do this once every two months, not every day. I lived about 10 minutes outside of Boulder for a bit and the commute almost killed me. If fact, it's safe to say, it did kill who I was for awhile. There's just something horrible about being trapped in a car, held up by all these other people and not being able to do anything about it. Besides getting in your car of course and that's exactly why we should all ride our bikes as much as possible. It's just good for so many reasons.

steve outing says:
Gas prices appear to be changing behavior -- getting more people to commute by bike -- at least in some parts of the country, like the San Francisco Bay Area. Check out this story:
'No driving today' As gas prices rise, more drivers ride the cycling trend
There is a silver lining to high gas prices, painful as they may be.
