I would like to wish a happy 14th birthday to Peter and Ella, my girlfriend’s younger twin siblings. Peter and the boys went to a Nuggets game while Ella and the girls went out to dinner at the Kitchen. It was a pretty big deal that he invited me. Kind of like when you get invited to go out for a beer with the big shots at work after a long probationary period. We had a blast and I have a whole new respect for pro basketball players. Watching them on TV has failed to hold my interest, but that TV/real life connection barrier has been breached. At the game, we sat on the floor right behind the Nuggets bench which allowed us to see their facial expressions and hear some of what they were saying. These guys are real people who are out there doing the best they can. You could see they where disappointed when they made a mistake and how serious they took the game. Can you imagine holding that kind of pressure? They have a multi million dollar organization whose success depends solely on their performance. All while thousands of people watch every move you make and criticize everything you do. And to top it off, every basketball player in the world wants to do better and take your job. So if you have too many bad days or someone better comes along, you’re on the street and forgotten. I don’t know about you, but I think they earn every cent they make.
