Posted by whitey on 5/24/2007 on whitey's blogEarlier we talked about what we do for the pre-race. Now let’s talk about some post race ideas to help you get recovered and gain the full benefit from your ride. It’s all about recovery!!! If you don’t recover properly from a hard ride you’ll end up tired and burned out, not in better shape.
1) Consume some recovery drink within 20 minutes and eat some real food within the hour. This is the optimal time for your body to absorb the nutrients. It’s been shown that a 4 to 1 ratio of Carbs to Protein is the best. This can be as simple as chocolate milk or more specific like Endurox R 4.
2) Get off your feet and out of the sun. Hang out and tell your battle stories after the race/ride but why not do it sitting in the shade.
3) Massage is key. Most of us don’t have a massage therapist follow us around so do it yourself. I like to put my legs up against the wall and rub them down so all the toxins drain out. This may also be a good time to stretch.
4) Go for a short recovery spin to help flush out the lactic acid. Drink lots of water as well, this not only flushes toxins but helps prevent cramps.
5) Take a nap or go to bed early. This helps your body recover and the more you sleep the more HGH your body produces. This is legal, so do it.
It’s often said that resting is the hardest part of training and I agree.
This is just what I do. share your thoughts so we can all learn.
