Posted by whitey on 5/3/2007 on whitey's blog | Groups: Team EinsteinToday we raced 95 miles over rolling terrain and finished on a three mile category one climb. Three guys rolled off the front right after the neutral start through town. Health Net immediately went to the front and set a nice tempo to control the race. Most of the race was strung out in a strong cross wind and rides were fighting for position out of the wind. With about 30 miles to go a few guys in front of me hit the ditch and jumped back on the road which caused a chain reaction eventually turning into a pile-up. Team Einstein's rider Eddy Kwon went down hard and is currently at the Silver City hospital getting stiches in his face. We wish him the best of luck and a fast recovery. Joby also crashed but only lost an earring and finished the race strong after doing tons of work all day. Not much else happened until mile 85 on the final turn towards the climb. Cory Colliard and I were sitting in about 35th position so he grabed my wheel and I did a suicide pull uphill and in the wind to get him to the front. Ryan Hamity and Jared Berger wern't far behind and positioned themselves well. Cory finished in the top 15 and Ryan and Jared in the top 30. Joby and I rolled in behind the field. Results aren't posted yet so that's the best I can do right now. If you would like to check official results or see course profiles go to www.tourofthegila.com.
