He was on this super old road bike with friction shifters and wearing a styrofoam helmet. I think he was racing me because he kept looking back to see where I was. Not wanting to be out of breath when I passed him, I let him dangle a little before I went by. As I was going by, he actually jumped my wheel and started riding in my draft. I was thinking, ‘Damn, I’m just on a training ride, but now I have to drop this guy.’ Why, because there’s something about a tag-a-long that annoys me. We were both wearing headphones so no words were spoken. I just looked back and started slowly riding faster and faster until he could no longer hang on. I kind of feel weird about the whole thing; the guy looked like he was 70. I’m not sure if I should feel bad for dropping him or embarrassed that I even got caught up in the whole thing. Either way, the old man impressed me.
