Bye-bye Beach

Posted by whitey on 4/23/2008

Hanging out on the beach for the last eight days has been pretty sweet. Instead of riding our bikes we played football, kayaked, did some yoga and what may be considered calisthenics. The calisthenics consisted of racing each other between two lawn chairs, pushing our rental car out of the desert(The sand was deeper than I thought) and attempting back flips. We didn’t look any better playing football either. Somehow it turned into left handed football and trust me, we looked ridiculous. The ocean kayaking was probably the only form of exercise we didn’t look ridiculous doing.

Going to Mexico

Posted by whitey on 4/15/2008

In four hours, my fiancé and I will be boarding an airplane to Phoenix. After the short one-hour flight we’ll be met by or friends and spending a night there before driving across the boarder to Puerto Penasco. It’s a great little town in Mexico right on the northern most point of the Gulf of California. We are staying at a really nice beach house for ten days with two other couples. This will be one of the longest stretches I have gone without a bike so I will have to find other ways to stay in shape. Learning how to surf or a run along the beach should do the trick.

Engaged!

Posted by whitey on 4/9/2008

Lara and I have just made plans to tie the not. I proposed to her while on vacation down at the Pagosa Springs Resort on Wednesday. I know it may seem kind of sudden but it all started 4 1/2 years ago while working at the coffee shop.

I was behind the counter and she came in to get a drink. The moment I saw her, I knew there was something incredibly special about her. In fact, I still have the image of that moment, in my mind.

The Perfect Weekend

Posted by whitey on 3/31/2008

Five of my best friends and I went to Moab for a weekend of camping and mountain biking. We arrived just before dark on Friday night and found that most of the camp sites were full with spring breakers. Not wanting to waste time searching we stayed at a friend’s house and jammed on his array of musical instruments. Much respect to those who can play and sound good because we did not. In the morning we started what was the best day of mountain biking I can remember. I’m not sure the names of all the trails but after five hours we ended on one called the Portal Trail.

Sid's Joy

Posted by whitey on 3/25/2008

My youngest son, Sid, comes running into the house yelling; "Come watch me Dad, come watch me Dad!" "I can jump on my bike just like Jake!" It only took me 45-seconds to get outside and he was already showing off for the neighbor girls. When he saw me, he ran towards me as fast as he could next to his bike almost tripping as the pedals hit his leg. He was so excited I don't think he even noticed. When he got close enough, and after a quick look to make sure I was watching, he jumped on his bike just like a little cyclocross racer. He only rode it for a few feet before jumping off.

Hey, Will's on TV!

Posted by whitey on 3/24/2008

It’s always cool when you get to watch someone you know on TV. Especially when they are in the lead break during one of the biggest races in the world. That’s what happened yesterday when I walked into Dukes house for the second Easter meal of the day. They were yelling at the TV like it was a football game. Will Frischskorn (Slipstream Chipotle - H30), was in a break for over 200 km during the 99th edition of the Milano-Sanremo in Italy.

What Story?

Posted by whitey on 3/18/2008

For those of you who logged on last night or early this morning, I am sure you enjoyed the read. Unfortunately, I had to remove it from the web. It was a great story about a certain President who went on a ride with a friend of mine. When I wrote the article I didn’t realize the story was for my ears only and I apologize for any inconveniences it may have caused. I also apologize for any unauthorized phone tapping that may have occurred to those who did read it. Just kidding. Hopefully I can get another version of the story at the proper time for you to read. Peace.
