Race Radios

Posted by MobCyclery on 4/17/2007 | Groups: Team Einstein

I would have to say that the most influential single piece of equipment in the peloton today is the race radio. In the last 15 years it has affected outcome of countless races. Old dogs feel the radio should be banned from racing (they probably feel so should the helmet).

Directors now sit in follow vehicles, watching the race unfold on a dash mounted TV screen, barking instructions to the riders. Long gone are the days when a rider needed to think for themselves. Tactics have also changed due to this and you no longer need to tape jersey numbers and time gaps across your stem.

Smaller teams and riders are using small, light, cheap, radios such as the Motorola Talkabout or similar models. These are great as long as you are within a mile or two, and aren’t trying to transmit through trees and hills. The larger teams are using very sophisticated, ham type, two way radios that work great even when the terrain gets hilly and the distances are great.

Espresso

Posted by MobCyclery on 4/13/2007 | Groups: Team Einstein

If you’re ever in the neighborhood and are in need of a pick-me-up, drop in and ask if the espresso machine is powered up. Chances are that it will be, since were all addicted to its sweet nectar!! In the winter time its working overtime and we've become quite adept at our pours....we even rate them A+ to F. The one I poured this morn was a B+.....an A+ is rare but when it happens we all gather to appreciate it. Chris is the best in the shop.....Joby is champion at the hot cocoa. Im a mocha latte fan (this morning’s sweetness pictured). We accept espresso beans over beer any day....A

Gila-Joe Martin

Posted by MobCyclery on 4/12/2007 | Groups: Team Einstein
Toe winning a Gila stage.....the BIG one!!

I registered the guys for the Gila and Joe Martin this morn. We had pretty good success last year and I'm expecting the same this year! The new team is young and dumb, but has more raw power than most, I guarantee! That’s where the direction of our fearless leader Jack Seehofer comes in....he can read a race and sees what’s happening WAY before it goes. His hardest task, this year, is going to be wrangling in all these young kids and holding them back. According to the lab results, a few of the guys are hitting numbers higher than some pro guys I know. (courtesy of ICPH and Cory Hart).....and if ya don’t know who Jack is, check out the first edition of 'Road Bike Action mag'....he's the "not so fat kid" featured in an article about all the lbs he lost riding his bike.

Dirty Bikes

Posted by MobCyclery on 4/11/2007 | Groups: Team Einstein

For the love of God, please clean your bike before you take it to your favorite shop to be serviced!! I'm gonna let you in on a little fyi....the moment you step out of the shop's door, the staff laughing at your filthy bike....and you’re gonna get charged a cleaning fee to boot! Just do all of us a favor and run it through the car wash and rinse it off!! I don’t mean that you have to make it sparkle....just wash off the large chunks of mud and grime so we can properly care for your rig! A clean bike is a happy bike.
