It Begins...

Posted by steepleduck on 11/17/2007

It feels like I just stopped.  It has been since September 9th that I haven't ridden my bike seriously.  I have of course done a few rides, mostly to coffee shops and check out the fall leaves, and to ward off boredom.  I am tired right now.  I haven't even ridden!  Why, you ask?  Why in the world would I be tired in November?  We just finished the first team camp of the '08 season.  10 days, the Boulderado, Pearl Street, JV, 54 other people now employed by Slipstream/Chipotle, A Paris-Roubaix winner, a Tour de France stage-winner, NZ nat'l champ, U23 European nat'l champ, a host of ot

The beach outside of Lisbon, Portugal

I think that what the Rockies have been doing the past few weeks warrants some thoughts.  They have found what all athletes strive to find: Communication, synchronization, harmony, flow, attitude, altitude, a little bit of luck, and the confounding realization that sometimes, shit just comes together.  I applaud them, and I hope that they don't stop to think about what is happening.  I hope they just keep playing and striving to accomplish their initial goals.  In a regular job you may land that good client, or close the biggest deal for the company, and of course to an extent there is ple

Slipstream Kit 2008

Posted by steepleduck on 9/18/2007

I just wanted to write you all a quick note to tell you to get to slipstreamsports.com and vote for your top 5 favorite kits for next season....I can't believe the amount of entries, something like 500 different jerseys...It should be fun to pick through them all and find the ones you like the best...I know that JV is going to choose which one he likes the best out of your votes, then the one that wins gets a kit and a race bike...pretty cool.  THanks for reading, now get out there and vote!!

Uni-Fall!!

Posted by steepleduck on 9/11/2007

THe close of the 07 season brings with it a note of weariness, some whining, and a hefty sigh of relief.  I have already whined to you about the rigors and stress of my first season, "abroad"  Now, I can move on to providing the refreshing notes of enthusiasm and sarcastic tendencies that permeate the mind of yours truly...

Home, Sweet Home

Posted by steepleduck on 8/20/2007

The last day of Portugal was fitting. 38k time trial, turns, off-camber sections, narrows, and of course, rain. The problem with this we discovered, is that the roads in this country absorb more oil, gas, and slick stuff, than you might find anywhere else. We were laughing because the roads are like ice even when it is sunny. Pretty trecherous conditions, especially at the end of a ten day stage race. My spectacular GC position, over 90 minutes down, allowed me to be the first guy from our team off.
