Hey, Will's on TV!

Posted by whitey on 3/24/2008 on whitey's blog

It’s always cool when you get to watch someone you know on TV. Especially when they are in the lead break during one of the biggest races in the world. That’s what happened yesterday when I walked into Dukes house for the second Easter meal of the day. They were yelling at the TV like it was a football game. Will Frischskorn (Slipstream Chipotle - H30), was in a break for over 200 km during the 99th edition of the Milano-Sanremo in Italy.

Beyond the Racer Zone

Posted by whitey on 3/4/2008 on whitey's blog

One of the greatest things about cycling is the cyclist themselves. We come in all different shapes and sizes with different backgrounds and ability levels. Take this weekend for example. I spent thirty-minuets sharing stories and discussing gear ratios with complete strangers in front of the coffee shop. One was of the jean wearing commuter type while another was a hard core fan/tour junkie. Of course I was the lycra wearing racer type. We ranged in age from 28-60 and weight from 170 -240 but none of that mattered. We all experienced the same joy and satisfaction while on the bike.

Hamsters Don't Have It So Bad

Posted by whitey on 2/5/2008 on whitey's blog

A gym membership is looking pretty good right now. Which is normally a weird thing for an outdoorsy guy like me to say. Especially since I'm the guy who harasses my friends for silting on a treadmill only a few blocks from the base of the Rocky Mountains. But I'm starting to see the sweaty appeal more clearly now that it snowed another few inches last night. As you can probably tell, I am sick of the cold. Guess I should have went to training camp with the team and taken a break from it. Oh well, like I always say, wind burn builds character.

Acclimated?

Posted by whitey on 2/5/2008 on whitey's blog

I have finally become acclimated to the weather here in Boulder and it’s not as nice as you would think. When I moved here from northern Wisconsin the winters in Boulder felt like summer and I rode every day all winter. Now that I’ve become soft, I barely ride at all. At least that’s how I feel. It just seems too easy for me to come up with something else to do. In my defense, I am moving into a new house so most of my excuses are legit. I also built a new bike shack in the back yard which has taken up a good amount of time. You should see this thing.

It's All About Fun When You're 7

Posted by whitey on 8/24/2007 on whitey's blog | Groups: The Mudskippers

My seven year old son Jake went to his first actual Mudskippers practice last Sunday and he loved it. I was a little worried that he’d get frustrated and the last thing I want to do is burn him out on cycling before he’s big enough to ride a real cross bike. The coaches did a great job and even though he is the smallest and youngest rider his spirits were high and I think his shortcomings only motivate him more. He’s riding a 27.5 pound bike and is at least 8” shorter than the rest of the kids.

Audio: YourCycling.com Podcast #8 - Whitey interviews young star Jake

Posted by whitey on 4/23/2007 on whitey's blog

This week I asked the hard hitting questions to an up and coming super stud rider: my son Jake.

Actually, at age 6, Jake's already got some good experience under his belt, and a great attitude to boot! (And as you'll hear, he's more motivated than most of us! Just listen to what he'd rather do than watch cartoons...)

Audio: Whitey talks to pro racer Nick Martin.

Posted by whitey on 3/20/2007 on whitey's blog

I had a chance to sit down with Trek / VW Mountain Bike Team racer Nick Martin. Sure, he's a mountain biker, but we won't hold that against him. Just kidding, Nick - you know that's where I started! Anyway, it was a great chance to get some insight into how his life has changed since turning pro. Take a listen...

Hey, Is That The Duck On TV?

Posted by whitey on 3/4/2007 on whitey's blog

It’s great to see your friends succeed. Especially when you can understand how hard they have worked for it. My buddy Jason had a little party at his house tonight to celebrate his performance at the Tour of California.
