Engaged!

Posted by whitey on 4/9/2008 on whitey's blog

Lara and I have just made plans to tie the not. I proposed to her while on vacation down at the Pagosa Springs Resort on Wednesday. I know it may seem kind of sudden but it all started 4 1/2 years ago while working at the coffee shop.

I was behind the counter and she came in to get a drink. The moment I saw her, I knew there was something incredibly special about her. In fact, I still have the image of that moment, in my mind.

The Flying Scotsman

Posted by whitey on 1/14/2008 on whitey's blog

Graeme Obree (The Flying Scotsman) stunned the world of cycling back in 1993 by beating Francesco Moser’s World Hour Record. His controversial riding style on a bike made partially out of washing machine parts added to his mystic. He also had a tough childhood and suffered from depression. The Flying Scotsman also went on to become the World Pursuit Champion. They’ve made a movie about his life titled “The Flying Scotsman”. I recommend it to anyone looking for a great movie where he overcomes personal and cycling battles to become a champion.

Team Rio Grande

Team Bike

After two great years of racing on the road with Team Einstein’s, I will be on a new team for 2008. I am trading my Giant for an Orbea and the bagels for burritos and riding for the Rio Grande Cycling Team. The structure of the two teams is very similar and the quality of riders will be the same. The only real difference is that they are based out of Boulder and will support me both locally and nationally. Since my focus has shifted more to the local scene this works great. It allows me to be home more and take care of business here, where it counts.

Great Ideas?

Posted by whitey on 10/8/2007 on whitey's blog
I juiced and drank all this.

Sorry for the lack of updates. After Vegas I felt really unhealthy and had the horrible idea of going on a juice fast. For four days, I had nothing but juiced vegetables and fruit. It was terrible and I hope I never get the urge to do it again. So the fast thing pretty much wiped me out for the remainder of the week and I haven’t really trained until today. The juice fast wasn’t the only great idea I had last week. I decided to grab a six-pack, dress like a mad man and put on my wig to cheer for the guys I normally race against.

Lalonde Wins Chequamegon 40

Posted by whitey on 9/17/2007 on whitey's blog

The day after Nicks wedding there was even more reason to celebrate. Amanda (Jesse Lalonde’s wife) was standing up in the wedding as well and her husband had just won the Chequamegon 40. It’s a 40-mile mountain bike race that draws the largest mass start list I know of. I think they limit the field to 2500. Not only did Jesse win it, but he won it on a fully rigid 29” single speed. That’s something I would have though impossible until now. I remember doing it in 2002 and getting my first concussion on a bike.

Same Team. Kind of?

The New Ciant TCX

For the last two seasons I have raced on the road for Team Einstein’s and cyclocross for Primus Mootry. This cross season I’ll be sticking with Einstein’s and racing a Giant bike instead. Primus Mootry has decided to downsize the team efforts and stay local. I was bummed when I first heard the news because Joe, Chris and the crew at Primus Mootry were, in my opinion, the best cross team on the circuit. I was worried that I would have no support at all, so when Einstein’s stepped up to the plate, I couldn’t refuse.

Duck Sauce

Posted by whitey on 7/7/2007 on whitey's blog | Groups: Team Einstein

My friend Jason Donald, aka The Duck, has started a featured blog on this website. He’s the one with the goofy picture below mine. It’ll be great to follow his progress through the top ranks of cycling. Jason and I started mountain biking together four years ago on Giant’s Rocky Mountain Regional Team. He took 2nd at the Sea Otter Classic his first time as a semi-pro and won Big Bear. From the start, we all new he was going to be kind-of-a-big-deal. The next year he switched to road and tried to talk me into doing the same but I resisted and raced pro the following year.
