Note: This contest has been closed. Semling scored the Columbiere tires, and Speedychix won herself the Re-Fuse tires. Their reviews will appear soon. Thanks for playing! THE CONTEST: Tired of focusing more on whether your tires are going to hold up than your race or training session? Are you constantly "that guy" who ends up finishing rides pushing the bike instead of riding it?? Well, thanks to the kind folks at MOB Cyclery, we have two free sets of tires to give you. All you need to do is tell us why you need a new set of tires. If your reason is the best and and most convincing, you'll get the new tires and post a product review of them here on YourCycling.com. THE PRIZE: Maxxis makes some of the best tires in the industry. We're giving away a set each of their Columbiere and Re-Fuse tires. (700x23 for each.) Thanks to MOB Cyclery for providing the tires! RULES: The two cyclists with the most compelling reasons for needing new tires win. When you receive them, take them out a few times. Within 30 days of getting your tires, share your thoughts about them -- good or bad -- in a user product review. Keep the tires. ... You do have to post a review. Otherwise, we'll tell Whitey you regularly tip off parking cops. THEN you're in trouble. There are few important requirements: 1) Tell us which set of tires you want (Columbiere or Re-Fuse); 2) your physical address must be included in your profile (otherwise, how will Whitey, errr, the postal service, know where to deliver them?); 3) North American addresses only for this contest; and 4) you must be at least 13 years old. HOW TO ENTER: Use the Comments feature below to tell us why you should get a new set of tires (and which set you need). We'll choose two peeps who we think deserve them the most. We'll then send them the tires and e-mail instructions for posting the review. DEADLINE: Begs and pleas for new tires will be reviewed on Friday, April 27th. Now, tell us why you need new tires... |

I want the a set of Columbiere tires because......
I live in a house full of 1 Women and 3 Girls. I love my family more than anything in the world. But I am the only man in the house. During OUR free time, what do we do? Shopping, drama, playing with Barbies, drama, playing kitchen, drama, playing house (I play the dad) , drama, you get the idea. Getting out on the bike is my time... I BEG AND PLEA for a set of tires, and with the extra money saved, I can buy some more dolls.LOL.
Skigi (Karin) says:
I need the Columbiere tires because my current tires are so worn you can see through them. I also would like to have one new thing on my 10 year old Schwinn Peloton. Plus I hear these tires are fast, so I can keep hammering my husband.
Mr. Skigi (John) says:
I absolutely must have the Columbiere tires because I need the speed! Anything to help me keep up with the local hammers here in Boulder. Even the commuters average 25 mph. My wife has been dropping me, guys on cruisers have been dropping me, and I even got dropped by a runner the other day. You can see my situation is desperate!
Speedychix says:
While I'd love to convince you to send me the Coumbiere tires, I'll tackle the neglected Re-Fuse. They look like the perfect tire for our local annual version of Paris-Roubaix. Gravel grinder and bad pavement. Over half the riders will flat out each year. These could be my secret weapon! After that they will happily see many gravel road rides. Among my riding mates they know my motto: No ride is complete without a little gravel. So let me give these tires their test. Thanks.

I need the Re-Fuse becuase -
That would mean I would finally have a set of tires that are not hand-me-downs from my wife. (She alwyas gets the new stuff) And I could finally take all the Clif Bar wrappers out of my tires that I've been using to cover the holes that the tubes kept sneaking out of. I'm sitting here dreaming of what it would be like to go for a ride and actually feel the tire on hte road (instead of the rim). Thank you for the chance to go for a ride on NEW tires.

I'm definitely down for the tire that "allows racers to cover ground in any conditions with plenty of confidence." So put me down for the "Columbiere."
Why do I need the a new set of tires?
On 01 January 1994, I realized that there was more to life than: guzzling an expensive bottle of Robert Mondavi Chardonnay, being the belle of the ball, speaking of what others need to work on, and/or sitting daily on the same coach (in self pity). So, I bought a 10 year old Bianchi Road Bike. And I began a 6-month intense cycling training for a cycling event called the California AIDS Ride #2. A 575 mile, 7 day, cycling event - San Francisco to Los Angeles.
In May of 1994, I left San Francisco with $3.00 in my pocket, no idea of how I was going to return, a questionable bike, the fear of failure, and began to cycle (along with 1500 other cyclist) toward West Hollywood. Seven days, 575 miles later, I arrived in West Hollywood. At which point, I realized it is possible to step outside of your normal routine. I realized it is possible to empower yourself while assisting others. I realized that I wasn’t alone in my ideas of creating a better world. And I realized that miracles could occur (after all, I made it back home with $3.00 in my pocket) .
Well since then, I've continued. And this year, for my 10th year, I will cycle with 2,100 cyclist - San Francisco to Los Angeles - in the fight against the AIDS Pandemic. It would be really great "not" to have to worry about a flat.
Wishing the best of all possible worlds,
Iyengar Yoga teacher,
10th Yr. AIDS Benefit Cyclist,>br>
