Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why should I share MY blog content with YourCycling.com?
A: Your blog is one of millions of blogs on the Web. There are hundreds of blogs on the topic of cycling. You can't expect to gain a large audience (unless you're really lucky) if readers only find your content on your blog. Smart publishers know that spreading your content around on the Web is the way to online publishing success.
Q: Won't I lose readers to my blog if it shows up on YourCycling.com?
A: On the contrary, you'll gain readers. When your blog shows up on YourCycling.com, people who were not aware of your blog will read it for the first time. They'll be able to click through via the links to your blog as published on your own website or other blogging service.
Q: How is anyone going to find my blog on your site? Won't it be buried?
A: We have a "group blog" called Cycling Around the Web which features the best posts by bloggers participating in this program. This is featured prominently on YourCycling.com. When one of your posts is selected by us to be posted on RATW, your blog will get excellent exposure.
We also have a featured bloggers directory page, where YourCycling.com users can find your blog.
Q: So how can I make money with this?
A: Throughout YourCycling.com you've probably noticed text ads that say "Ads by Google." These are part of a program called Google AdSense, which puts contextual advertising next to our content. (In other words, the ads that Google inserts onto our pages are closely related to the content of a particular page. If we have a story about treadmills, for example, you'll see Google insert text ads about treadmills.) When someone clicks on one of those Google ads, YourCycling.com earns money.
Those Google text ads also will show up on YourCycling.com pages containing your blog's content. But instead of us getting all the Google AdSense money, we split it with you, 50/50.
Q: What do I have to do to get that money?
A: Assuming that you have an AdSense account, simply give us your AdSense account number. (We'll ask for it when you fill out the application to participate in this program.) That's all there is to it.
Q: What if I don't have an AdSense account with Google?
A: You should get one! For a blogger, adding Google AdSense is like getting free money. You can sign up by clicking the link below:
Then put AdSense ads on your own blog, so you'll earn money on it as well as with your presence on YourCycling.com.
And if you don't want to get an AdSense account, no worries. You can still share your blog on YourCycling.com. Just leave the field blank where we ask for an AdSense account number. Of course, then we won't be helping you make money from your blog -- but we will be helping you get a bigger audience.
Q: How do I get paid?
A: We said earlier that this program is really simple. You won't receive payments directly from us. Instead, we run a rotation script on your blog content as published on YourCycling.com. Every other page impression gets credited to your AdSense account. So, readers of your content on YourCycling.com = additional money in your AdSense account. Simple!
(Just to be clear, you earn AdSense money only when someone clicks on a Google AdSense ad. Google doesn't pay when its AdSense ads are simply viewed.)
Q: How do I find my Google AdSense code?
A: Follow these steps:
- Log in to your Google AdSense account
- Click on the "AdSense setup" tab
- Click the "AdSense for content" link
- Look for and click the "Single page" link
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the "Your AdSense code" box (which looks like this)
- Click inside the code box and copy the code; that's what you'll need to give us when you fill out our blog share application
