Hi,
We like riding bicycles in general just around the block,in the school yards and parks. Eventually we would like to try longer distance rideing in larger parks like Golden Gate Park and up hills. We have "regular" bikes, the ones we buy at non-bicycle stores. Can you recommend a few brands with the wheels that don't pop,can go up smaller hills, and rougher areas, have several speeds, and are not too expensive? Thank you for your advise in advance.

It sounds like you would be best off getting some mountain bikes to start. I would suggest buying Used, if you want something affordable. You'd be better off with a good Used mountain bike, than a new one from Wal Mart or other major store chain. In general, you can get a fairly good used mountain bike for $100-200. Look around E-Bay, or some of the other sites. Get a feel for the going rates on bikes like Specialized, Gary Fisher, Cannondale, etc. Craig's List will show all bikes for sale in your area, so you may avoid paying shipping.

Craig’s list is a great place to find a used bike. Especially in the Bay area which is where I’m guessing you're from. You may also want to look at a Hybrid bicycle. They bridge the gap between a mountain bike and a road bike and run around $300-400 new so if you can find a used one it would be more than reasonable.
