VanGilder, Schempf and Gallagher highlight C3-Sollay.com 'cross team

C-3 Sollay.com, one of the Mid Atlanic’s
strongest cyclocross teams, looks excitedly forward to the 2008 ‘cross
season. The team is lead by returning elite riders Wes Schempf, 2006
Pennsylvania State Champion Andy Wulfkuhle, Beth Mason, Heidi
VonTeitenberg, Diane Grim and Elizabeth

San Francisco Cat. 3 team looking for riders for 2009

The San Francisco peninsula-based team Third Pillar is looking for
Cat 3 riders for next season. On top of a free Louis Garneau clothing
kit, riders receive incentives like subsidized winter training camps
and free race entries for all participants in a race if any team member
reaches the podium. The team practices almost weekly in the off-season
to apply professional level tactics to amateur racing.

Third Pillar is limited to about 15 members, almost exclusively Cat
4 elites and masters. Despite its small size, it had 11 wins and 30
podium finishes last year.

Bikes for Kids Fundraising Events Raise $10,000 to Purchase Bikes for Children in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY - Sept. 24, 2008 - Bikes for Kids Utah, a non-profit
501(C)3 organization that annually provides 1,000 new bicycles to
underprivileged Utah children, today announced the combined fundraising
efforts of its annual Dinner Auction and time trial event raised
$10,000.

Düsseldorf Says Nein to Hosting 2010 Tour Start

After numerous doping scandals surrounding the Tour de France in
recent years, the German city of Düsseldorf has withdrawn its bid to
host the start of the 2010 race, it was announced Thursday.

Düsseldorf mayor Dirk Elbers formally withdrew the city’s candidacy
after a meeting in the west German city on Wednesday night, saying it
would have cost 6 million euros (8.5 million US dollars) to host the
start.

MAC Cyclocross Opening Weekend Filling Up Quickly

The MAC Cyclocross Series opens its 2008 campaign this weekend with
a pair of established races that are new to the MAC.  The season
kicks-off in the cycling hotbed of Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania with the
Nittany Lion Cyclocross at Penn State University’s Fogelsville Campus
on Saturday September 20.  The UCI C-2 event features over $4,000 in
prize money.  Even though two other UCI races are being held in America
that day, the Nittany Lion Cyclocross, by virtue of its earlier Eastern
Time Zone, is laying claim as the first American UCI cyclocross race of
the 2008-2009 season.

Vande Velde to Race in D.C.'s ING DIRECT Capital Criterium

The organizer of the ING DIRECT Capital Criterium powered by
CycleLife announced Wednesday that Garmin Chipotle rider Christian
Vande Velde, fifth place overall finisher in this year’s Tour de
France, will be among riders competing for more than $50,000 in prizes
in the Washington, D.C., race scheduled for September 21.

The field competing for the big money purse, which will also feature
$5000 worth of ING DIRECT Orange Saving account primes, is a
star-studded cast representing America’s most decorated teams and
riders.

Jonathan Page's Planet Bike Cup to Feature Equal Prize Money for Women and Men

Women racers from Juniors up to Elites will be racing for the same
prize list as the men at Jonathan Page's Planet Bike Cup."Women train
as hard, spend as much money traveling to races, and race just as hard
as the men," says Renee Callaway, race director. "There's no reason why
they shouldn't
race for the same prize payout."

Argentina Wins Gold in the Track Cycling Madison

BEIJING -- Argentina's Juan Esteban Curuchet and Walter Fernando
Perez have won the gold medal in the men's madison, their nation's
first track cycling medal of the Beijing Olympics.

Argentina had eight points Tuesday, one more than silver-medalist Spain and two more than bronze-winning Russia.

It
was an upset loss for Britain, the heavy favorites with Mark Cavendish
and Bradley Wiggins -- who was bidding to pass Burton Downing of the
United States as the most-decorated Olympic track cyclist of all time
-- finishing eighth.
