While in Silver City, New Mexico for the Tour of Gila, Brad and I used an unconventional method to make a grocery store run on Cinco de Mayo. Think bike racers have strong legs? Try being a bike taxi driver!

Tour of the Gila Stage 5

Stage 5 Tour of the Gila

Today was the final stage of the Tour of Gila and considered one of the most difficult stages in the country. It’s a 106 mile stage with five categorized climbs. Check out the coarse profile pictured to the left. The race started off pretty fast considering how far we had to go and it was our fifth day of racing. Joby and I stayed at the front and protected Cory Collier for the climb. Joby rotated in the 1 – 5 spot with a BMC rider and the Health Net train. This allowed Cory and I to ride in the top 15 with no problem. Just before the first category two climb there was a 90 degree right hand turn that almost had a crash.

Someone get this poor cyclist some new socks.

If you want a race report check the Team Einstein’s Group because I got popped early and can’t really tell you what happened other than the fact that it was 80 miles with three category three climbs and I suffered a lot. Instead I’ll provide you with an update on the crack house. We’ve picked up three new roommates: Randy the Roach, Mille and Joe Saperstein. Randy is a friendly cockroach that lives in our kitchen. She’s pretty fast and likes hanging out in the trash while not on our stove. Mille (not pictured) is an oversize millipede who was on the ceiling above Brad’s bed until falling into his travel bag.
